Beginner Course

Outline:

If you have never taken a bookbinding class before, this is the class for you. This is a short course covering the basic bookbinding skills: an introduction to cloth and paper covers.

Starting at the very beginning, you will learn about paper grain, cutting, folding, making and sewing a section to create a pamphlet binding. From there you will move on to multi section sewing and binding.

You will use materials and tools safely and appropriately, avoiding unnecessary waste, while learning techniques, tricks, and habits that will prepare you to progress to the next level or continue on your own. You will product two book structures in this introductory course.

The first is a hard cover, single section pamphlet binding. The second will be a multi section book entitled "The Ideal Sketchbook" in which you create a rounded, case bound book that opens easily for sketching. Course fees include tuition, materials, notes, and some tools.
