HomeAbout Us

Over 40 years ago The Queensland Bookbinders' Guild was formed to help train amateur bookbinders to develop skills in the art of bookbinding.

Today the guild continues to operate with its guiding mission to promote, foster, and practise the art of bookbinding in its traditional form and embrace the related graphic and kindred arts.

We are a member of Brisbane Visual Arts Community (BVAC) and meet at the Wellers Hill Arts Hub, 140 Weller Road, Tarragindi. Members are kept abreast of activities and developments through our newsletter, website, and weekly emails.

We offer:

  • Courses to lead you along your bookbinding journey, starting with the Beginner and Intermediate courses and moving on to a range of more advanced offerings.
  • Evening meetings with talks on bookbinding topics and the opportunity to share binding experiences with the group.
  • An extensive range of specialist bookbinding supplies, competitively priced or heavily discounted.
  • Access to the Artist Book Group, which meets monthly and explores works of art that utilise the form of the book.
  • Access to the bindery where members can use all the excellent equipment that the Guild has acquired.
  • An extensive lending library with books, videos and journals.
  • The ability to borrow some of the Guild’s bookbinding equipment.
  • Open days on weekends where you can buy supplies, chat with experienced members and access the library and equipment.
  • A weekly email and a quarterly newsletter.
  • An annual book binding competition featuring a set “text block”.
  • An annual visit to a bookbinding-related venue.
  • An enthusiastic committee of volunteers whose time keeps the Guild running smoothly

We welcome any people interested in joining to attend one of our open days or meetings. Please see the calendar for meeting dates or contact us for any other information.
