TBG Meeting - March Boxes

March Meeting

After a very successful February meeting, with thanks to Michelle Vandermeer, the group has voted for boxes for the March and maybe April meeting. As always there is no need to book in to the meeting. The night is open to any current members. Just show up on the night ready to go.

To get started though there's a touch of homework for this one. We are thinking of doing solander boxes. So the guild has the Hollander book "Introduction to Bookbinding and Custom Cases". In there they describe one method of making boxes where you measure your book and cut all the materials then assemble. I find this really easy to do when I'm in a rush and the boxes turn out fantastic.

So for Thursday night please have your book measured. You need all three dimensions of the book, and make sure you use the biggest dimension for each direction otherwise the book may not fit the case. I have a spreadsheet where you input your dimensions and it will calculate the materials in mm (the book does it all in inches). You don't need to fill in the spreadsheet but you can if you want. I will make it available on the facebook group. I will maybe see if I can get the printer up and running on Thursday to print out the pages from the spreadsheet that you will need and I will give everyone a brief rundown of how to use the spreadsheet.

Thursday we will then cut all the card and bookcloth out and everyone can get started assembling the boxes.

Remember this isn't a course. It's more of a workshop where we are all kind of doing it together and there to help each other. I will not be "teaching" how to make the box.

Any questions please ask, facebook page is preferable or to me by email.

Cheers
