Fred Pohlmann & Roger Perry, Master Bookbinders, invite conference delegates to join them at the Pohlmann Bindery, Camp Mountain, for a demonstration of Fine Bookbinding techniques.

Each demonstration will be of approximately 1 hour duration and afterward delegates are invited to remain at the Bindery and enjoy lunch with Fred, Roger and fellow delegates.

Each presenter will have samples of their work to view and the session will begin with a brief commentary of around 5 – 10 minutes on these books. This will be followed by a demonstration of the specific technique.

10:00am – 11:00am. Fred Pohlmann will demonstrate strip leather onlays – in the steps design – tracing – leather moistening – transfer of design to leather (vegetable tan only) – preparation and cutting of strips – inlay with glue.

11:00am – 12:00pm. Roger Perry will demonstrate Gold Finishing, also known as Gold Tooling. This is the decorative process of enhancing the spine and covers of a book with gold leaf patterns and designs.

Two books are used to illustrate this process. One book will be used to demonstrate spine decoration and the other to demonstrate front cover decoration using Roger’s particular method of traditional finishing. Gold leaf will be used in this demonstration to provide the full effect of this beautiful book cover finish to delegates.

12:00pm – 1:00pm Gather together at the Bindery for lunch and conversation with Master Bookbinders Fred Pohlmann and Roger Perry and fellow delegates. Please bring you lunch. Tea and coffee will be provided.
