Cancellation Policy:
Cancellation is required by 9 October to allow someone on the waitlist to take your place. Materials are being prepared on 12th October so bookings are required by 11 October to allow sufficient materials and equipment to be prepared.
A refund will only be provided after cancellation date for serious unplanned circumstances.

About this event

In this course you will learn to make a rounded and backed, case bound book.This is a traditional hard-cover book. The regular Beginners Course is not required. The Tutor will adjust the course content of our regular Intermediate course to make it suitable for beginners, though some experience in sewing is an advantage. You must be a QBG member to enrol. See New Member Sign Up on the website. Country membership costs $50 and will last until early June 2025. It is not included in the course cost.

The Course Tutor will be Darryn Schneider and the Assistant will be Ken McKeon, both experienced Guild members.

Course Content
After folding and sewing the text block you will round and back it to create a book that is longer wearing.
You will learn to tip on endpapers and apply premade headbands to the text.
After the text block is prepared you will create the cover and "case in" to finish your new book.

Tools and Materials
All materials will be provided by the Guild. A basic bookbinding tool kit will be provided as below. Notes are provided but please bring a notebook and pen for taking your own notes

Tools Required:

Craft knife with snap off blades
Awl
Steel Ruler
Scissors
Bookbinding Needle
Bonefolder
Set Square


Additional tools and equipment needed will be provided on loan from the Guild.
Also bring your lunch and snacks, and an apron. Cobb and Co will provide basic tea and coffee making facilities and there is a cafe on-site.
