New Course program announcement

Weekly News

13th July 2020

Dear Guild Members,

Just a short Weekly News from me this week, as we have not yet put together a programme of meetings and courses, until the situation regarding meeting together becomes clearer. Please watch this space as we do hope to have some courses to offer soon.

Our Open Day yesterday was very successful with 18 people attending, including four potential members. We made lots of sales. Darryn Schneider gave a very detailed demonstration of sharpening your paring knife and spokeshave (concentrating on the paring knife) and June McNicol talked about different types of leather and what is most suitable for bookbinding. Darryn then gave a short paring demonstration. One feature of the morning was that our competition book,” The Mysterious Affair at Styles” has been printed and the first newly minted copies of printed pages ready for folding and sewing were for sale at $20 each. We will have more copies for sale at future evening meetings and Open Days. Look out for dates. Remember that the judging has been moved to early 2021 so there is not the same urgency as previous years.

The only other announcement is that the Libris Awards winners were announced today by Artspace Mackay   (see!2) with three winners and one highly commended. It will be a fascinating exhibition, if you can make the trip.

This is also our last week of our display at the Scrumptious Reads Bookshop at 92 Arthur Terrace, Red Hill. If you can pop in and say hello to one of our valiant exhibit-sitters during the week (closes on Friday afternoon) we would be delighted to see you, and you can see a great display of our work. We will be there from 10-1 every day.

Happy bookbinding to you all
